The John Spoor Broome Library at Cal State University Channel Islands was a build and design project. Coustic-Glo was intimately involved from the beginning working with the general contractor, PCL the project architects, Gruen Associates, and the design architects, Foster & Associates, to design and execute ceiling systems that met both the design criteria and budget parameters. This project involved both interior and exterior linear metal ceilings. The exterior ceilings are 17" wide metal panels with closed reveals and designed and constructed to withstand up to 70 mph winds. During the final stages of construction wind storms tested the system by providing gusts up to 90 mph. The exterior ceilings held fast with no movement, rattling or shaking. In addition, the exterior ceilings had to appear to pass through a glass wall and become interior ceilings with no variance in the lines (see photo). The interior linear metal ceilings were 9" wide with open reveals and acoustical backings. These ceilings also had to be accessible. In addition, in the book stacks area, custom circular rings were designed to allow vertical HVAC ducts to pass through the ground floor ceilings. Simplex ceilings in Montreal, Canada provided the design and manufacturing to make these custom systems work. Acoustical linear tiles were also installed through out the facility to continue the total linear feel of the design. Coustic-Glo is proud to be one of the critical team members to make this project a success.
